Change is the buzz word of this season. Every time I turn the television or the radio on I hear people talking about change. What is it about this word that has made it so popular? Could it be that people are looking for change more than the want to admit? What kinds of change are they looking for? Is it social, personal change or political.
The change that is being discussed through the media right now is pretty much social or political, because people want to see change in the government. I would like to discuss personal change, because when people learn to change themselves and their situations form ordinary to extraordinary, they will learn to accept and appreciate change at other levels.
Change can be difficult, but it is an important part of life. Change is hard because people overestimate the value of what they have and underestimate the value of what they may gain by giving that up.We would rather be ruined than to change.
What change do we need in our life right now? Is it our job, our way of thinking, our eating habit, our attitude toward others or the way we view ourselves? People in general try to resist change, even though change is inevitable.
For instance my son wants a new game for his play station every week, because he is bored with the ones he has; he wants something different. I did not say he gets one every week, because he does not. I would rather buy him a book every week.
Why do some people resist certain kinds of change when change is a way of life? Although people resist change for several reasons, I believe the biggest reason is fear and doubt of the unknown. We become comfortable with our lives the way they are almost to a point of complacency and we call it security. We do not want to disrupt our present lives, because it might take too much effort to start something new. We are afraid of disappointments. We may have gotten hurt before, perhaps when we change a job and geeting disappointed to find out that the grass is not always greener on the other side.
